There's a difference between being looked at and being seen.

I'm a trauma therapist. I could diagnose what's wrong with me in under a

It wouldn't stop a thing.

It wouldn't stop a thing.
I know what it means that I leave my light on now. I know what it means
that I locked my door tonight and then lay there hoping it wasn't enough.
I don't want the nice man who asks first. I want the one who doesn't.
He hasn't put a hand on me. He looked straight at me across a fence and
didn't flinch, and nobody has ever once looked after me in my life, and
I sat down in that chair so fast it's humiliating.
Somebody should stop me.
There's nobody left in this house to try.
REED
I've watched this woman eight months and I have not been in control of
one single day of it.
I know the hour she talks to her dead mother. I know which stair she
skips. I know the sound she makes when she's certain nobody is listening,
and I have built an entire life out of making no sound at all.
She was supposed to be the way in.
Now there's one word running under everything I do, quiet as a second
heartbeat. Mine.
I won't crowd her. I won't make it my fault and hand her a villain to
shove at. She's going to say it out loud, in her own voice, so it's hers
and not a thing I took.
She'll say it.
