Reiyin is a student of scrafting. She captures energy and objects with sigils, and she works multiple jobs to feed her family. Life is tough but manageable until her grandma’s illness worsens and treatment prices increase. But luck brings her a new friend who might be able to help.

Seren is a mermaid with a changed body, struggling to be herself. Burnt by a human in her past, she refuses to get close to that species again. When Reiyin invades Seren’s favourite spot at the lake, the fastest way to get back to peace and quiet is to help Reiyin out. But they are drawn closer to each other, and Seren finds herself wishing for the human to accept her for who she truly is.
