Silas Marcelli is older and far too comfortable with control, the kind of businessman people speak about carefully because everyone knows his success is tied to the Sinners, the most dangerous men in the city. As if that wasn’t warning enough, he also happens to be my ex’s boss, which should have been enough to walk away and never look back.

It should have been a mistake I walked away from.

Instead, when he tells me to listen, I do, and when his hand closes around my throat I don’t panic the way I should. I feel calm, seen, like he understands a part of me I never knew existed.
