I was so naive thinking I could make my escape with a beat-up old car and fifty dollars to my name. But I had to try. If I didn’t run, the leaders were set to marry me off to an old man whose touch made my skin quiver with disgust in the name of a god I no longer believe in.
I got lucky breaking down in front of a repair shop and felt even luckier when that hunk of a mechanic came out to greet me and offer to look at my car on the house. But no matter how safe he tries to make me feel, the hairs on the back of my neck won’t go down.
I want to believe that Dax is my savior, but if they come to try and force me back home, is Dax enough to keep me safe?
