The one that got away -- and then came back.
Seven years ago, my life ended.
Not literally, of course. I'm still here, but I was shattered so completely, it certainly feels like a large part of me died that day.
Helplessly, I had to watch him get dragged away. Torn from my life and not a single person cared. Hell, they didn't even know.
I never learned his fate so the wound never healed. It just festered and oozed as I learned to float through life. Going through the motions of the mundane day-to-day without any thought or connection.

Heath -- dark, disturbed, and my overprotective brother's best friend. The very definition of forbidden fruit. Not that it stopped us before and from the way he looks at me now, I don't think it will stop his this time either.
My instinct is to just leap without looking. I want to bury myself in him and the way he makes me feel, but so much has happened since we were kids. I don't even know where he's been or what's happened to him. What is clear is he's a broken shell; a shadow of who he used to be.
When we were younger, my brother was our only obstacle, but now he may be the easiest to conquer.
